Good place to base with lots of activities close by.
Good place to base with lots of activities close by. We didn't spend much time in the town itself as we stayed slightly out of town center so cannot comment on restaurants and such. Good street food. Good grocery shopping to stock up.

We spent 2 full days there.
We spent 2 full days there. The first day we went to the local Mayan ruins of Cahal Peche and Xanantunich and the second we went cave tubing with Bellizean Caving Expeditions. Both were amazing experiences. If we had an extra day we would have loved to see the Mayan city of Carocal which is further away from town.

If you're looking for quiet and remote, then this is your place. There isn't much to do here. Thank God for the Casinos. They gave me something other than staring at the hotel walls to do.
Visiting the Mayan ruins of Xunantunich, was great. But you definitely want to take the taxi from the ferry to the top of the hill, if you're not in good shape.
Just a little way up the road is a restaurant named Sweet & Sour. The food was very good. I just wasn't feeling the cow foot soup. Lol.
Although lots of advertisement says public transportation is available. However, unless you want to spend a small fortune, you absolutely need a car and a working cell phone for the GPS.
The people in Belize were very helpful and friendly. It was great that most of them spoke English. This was a huge plus.
The poverty here was heart breaking. I'm glad that I had an opportunity to visit. But I doubt that I will be going back any time soon.

The only thing that was horrific about this place was the hair braiding woman whose small shop is directly left from The Spot restaurant which is on the opposite side of the Venus hotel. The woman is violent. She gave us a big spill about how awful my daughters hair extensions were and that she would take it out and do it again. She said she would do it for 50USD. We accepted as she seemed like a nice lady but how wrong we were. She took the extensions out but then said she couldn’t remove the beads in my daughters hair and would need to leave them in. My daughter was horrified so I then had to bite every single one of them out myself. She then cut a three inch chunk of my daughters hair which is right on the crown. We told her we didn’t want her doing it and she bullied us to carry on. She then side platted my daughters natural hair and made a huge plaitted bump and then sowed the hair into the plait leaving a huge surplus of the hair extensions hanging. My daughter was so distraught and started crying and begged her to stop. She then took a 12 inch kitchen knife from her handbag and pepper spray on her key ring and said we must giver her the money. It was such a scary experience. Please please avoid this woman at all costs. We then complained to authorities whom explained she was mentally unstable. They wanted us to file a police report to have her arrested but we just wanted to leave the area.

Easy to navigate on foot.
Easy to navigate on foot.
The market is a must see for especially the food that is available throughout the day.
Just like any other place, be careful at night time when walking downtown. We did feel very safe.
Have bug repellents ready at night.

Good spot to stay and commute to various tourist places in Western Belize-ruins, market, Guatemala border. Some of our destinations were far enough from San Ignacio that if I did the trip again, would have stayed closer to them versus commuting from San Ignacio
The location of Venus hotel could not have been any more central. It was supremely comfortable and staff were welcoming. The bonus was the balcony across the length of the hotel, just outside our room, that overlooked the town square. Loved it! Oh, and another bonus, that we took full advantage of, was the free use of the pool at their sister hotel, which was about a 10 minute walk away. We went hard in the morning, then relaxed by the pool in the afternoon.
I think we had the best room in the place, suite 132, a corner balcony with jungle views. On the Trumpet tree outside our room we saw various birds, including motmots and toucans. Also saw a kinkajou one evening. Amazing staff who remember your names and cater to your every whim. Also got a tour of the on-site Green Iguana Sanctuary. It’s a very short walk into town. Also, it’s where Will and Kate stayed when they were here. And the queen too back in 1994.
The property was beautiful, so peaceful and lush after staying in the heart of San Ignacio! The meals were to die for and there were sweet kittens and dogs wandering around to love on. We really enjoyed chatting with Dominic - such a great guy - and he even showed us around the farm for a little hike/tour! The room was also clean and comfortable with plenty of space and everything we needed. Overall an excellent stay!
The hotel is a decent 3-stars option for a short stay in San Ignacio. Though it is rather rudimentary venue, it offers quite sizable, quiet and clean rooms. It is located 20 min walki from the town center, but it is bearable distance for an evening stroll. Importantly, staying there, you still have an access to dining options in the town, despite being located somehow on the outskirts.
We had a wonderful stay at Villa Cayo. Virginia, Ken, and their staff provided a beautiful hilltop retreat. They helped us book our daily excursions and you can order breakfasts to be delivered to your room before your outings. We were in Unit 3 and felt we had the small lawn and valley view to ourselves. We would not hesitate to recommend Villa Cayo to friends visiting San Ignacio.
Room is basic but comfy. Food is simple but delicious. It’s not a full service restaurant but they try their best to cater to your needs.
Dominic is a wonderful host and loves to spend time getting to know his guests. We really enjoyed our day out with the local tour guide he recommended, as well as the shuttle company that got us to San Ignacio and back to the airport.
Very convenient location to explore the san ignacio area. It has everything you need in kitchen and living room for cooking and spending relaxing evening. Hosts provides plenty of local recommendations on things to do and is very friendly. She provides a tasty breakfast. Wifi seems to work well for us. Great stay! Thank you for having us
A little paradise in San Ignacio close to the market and busstation! The host is very welcoming and helps you with all your questions. The room is great and has everything you need. The garden is just beautiful and spacious and we loved the outdoor kitchen. Wish we could stay longer!
It’s a good place you can get for the price in San Ignacio that is close to the bus stop and tour agencies. But if you don’t have to be in San Ignacio you may rather stay 15min out of the town and enjoy the nature. Being in the city is not much fun.
Spacious rooms, fantastic value for money, central location and amazing staff, run by the friendliest women who made the experience and always went above and beyond to assist with tours, getting the best deal, food recommendations and washing etc.
This beautiful resort provided us with everything. The rooms were well appointed. The restaurant was superb with a beautiful setting of the waterfall. They pay attention to detail and the customer care was the best experience we had in Belize.
Friendly hostel with helpful staff. Free filtered water available and a kitchen if you need it. Right next to some of the Mayan ruins. Organised the ATM tour through the hotel and it was amazing - highly recommend!
a great place to stay to enjoy san ignacio and all it has to offer! the hotel has a great pool, the best employees and they have a great sister company to go to Tikal and the ATM caves.
The location of the hotel was great for our family. Near restaurants and the bus stops, it made for easy planning. The room’s A/C unit and ceiling fan made for cool sleeping.
The staff were great and the food was exceptional, home cooking at its best. We quickly found out it was well worth the experience of staying at the lodge for our meals!
the bed was super comfortable and the food at the hotel had to be the best food I’ve had in Belize and we’ve been here for5 months. The staff was super friendly
